Happy Birthday Charlotte
My dearest Charlotte,
I've just put you to bed on the first day of your second year. As usual, I nursed you, then kissed you on the chin before laying you down in your crib. You weren't crazy about leaving my arms, but you are growing up now and are learning how to fall asleep on your own. While I love that you still want my arms to fall asleep in, I also know you want some space to stretch out in while you drift off into dream land.
As I think about your birthday, it occurs to me that, for this year at least, it is more for the people around you who love you. You won't really understand the special party tomorrow. We get to celebrate all the ways you've changed and grown in the last 12 months. At your party tomorrow, you'll be most concerned with maintaining your daily routine, playing with your new toys, and getting your hands on the cool crescent moon cake I made just for you.
Sweet Charlotte, you are only on loan to me from God, for however long he sees fit to let me have you. While I selfishly pray it is for a very, very long time, I also promise to always support you in following the unique path God has created just for you, wherever it leads.
You see, as much as I love you and as much as your daddy loves you... it is nothing compared to how much God loves you. He has a plan for your life that, while unknown to us now, will undoubtedly lead to indescribable adventures and certain challenges. But don't worry, he will give you all the resources you need to face them with courage and grace.
For your first birthday Charlotte, it is my prayer that God will give you a mother worthy of such a special little girl. I pray that he will continue to grow me into a proper example for you of how a Godly woman thinks about the world, treats other people, worships, and brings glory to God.
Happy birthday baby girl! Welcome to toddler-hood!
I love you!

ReplyDeleteYou are such a great mommy Jennifer!
We are so proud of the mommy and daddy Charlotte has! My prayer is that as you do your best to live up to the standards you have set for yourselves as parents that you keep in mind to keep those same standards for each other as husband and wife. Your relationship is the one Charlotte will observe for many years to come! You both have an awesome responsibility to one wonderfully created child of God and handed over to you for but a moment in time.
