The Cake is Done!

I finished making Charlotte's cakes this morning. Yes, you read that right - cakes! (See Practice Cake #1 and #2)

I decided to make the "adult" cake and a then a separate cake for her to play with on her own.

First, here is Charlotte Moon's "Moon" Cake. It is my first attempt at cake carving and I think it turned out pretty neat. I can't wait to see what she does with it!

And here is the adult cake. It has 2 layers of chocolate cake and 1 layer yellow cake. The filling is vanilla frosting and cherry preserves. You can't tell it from this picture, but the cake is leaning towards the back slightly. When I put the preserves on, it made the top layers of the cake slide around. If I were to do it again, I would use a thicker filling.

In the end I decided against the fondant. It was a lot of work and I didn't think the end result was worth it. Plus, I wasn't sure how busy I would be this morning and didn't want to make extra stress on myself in case the morning got away from me.

I saved over a thousand dollars on this cake. If I had ordered it from Ace of Cakes, I would have had to fly to Charm City to pick it up!

  2. Very cute!

I think those are the same flowers on her cake as I used on Esme's #1 cake. I love how they look elegant without being a lot of work.
