Monday Meditation # 9 - What do I believe?

I found myself floating through Chapter 2 last week without experiencing much conviction. If DeMoss titles the book "Lies Women Believe," then I must believe these lies, right?

Well, maybe. Or maybe not. I know that over the last couple of years, God has been working in me to show me more about his character. He has used articles like this one to help me understand his sovereignty over everything that happens, the good and the evil.

My prayer right now though, is that God will show me if I am being prideful in saying I don't believe these lies. I also wonder, if I were faced with a major catastrophe, would my faith hold up like Joy's? (click over to find a link to Joy's awesome testimony!)
Lie # 1 - God is not really good. If he were, he would... [fill in the blank].
God is either good or he isn't. We can't have it both ways. He is good in the bad times and in the good times. If you didn't click on the link I mentioned earlier, then go read it now. The ministry of John Piper has helped me learn the true side of this lie.

I have a thousand reasons to believe God is good. The Bible is filled with them. My life is filled with them. I observe the lives of people around me and see evidence of God's goodness all the time.
We know that all things work together for the good of those who love God: those who are called according to His purpose. Romans 8.28 (HCSB)
What reasons do you have to believe that God is good? Do you believe that God is good even when you don't get what you want?

We're onto chapter 3 this week. I pray that you are being blessed as you follow along with me.

  2. Michelle,
I'm so glad you went and read it. I've read it at least 3 or 4 times and am still moved by it.

  3. Jennifer ~ This was so very powerful. I did click on the link and reading that story took me back to 2001 when my husband was headed to the Twin Towers on that awful day. He spent months wondering why God spared him... This is powerful Scripture. I don't think we ever looked at it that way. I can't wait to share this with him. Thank you.
