Nap Time

Today I had the luxurious privilege of taking an almost 2 hour nap in our large queen sized bed without having to share a pillow or blanket with anyone. It was glorious!

After a while though, it was time to wake up and get some things done, like nurse Charlotte. Bruce brought her to me and we laid in bed staring into each other's eyes as she did her thing.

Since Charlotte is now incredibly mobile with her knee-toe crawl, nursing has become more interesting, especially when we are laying down and she is awake. Today was no exception.

While she was still latched on, she managed to roll from her side to her belly. From there, she pulled her knees up under her so she could sit up. She got about half-way up when I think she realized that sitting up meant letting go of Momma. Eventually, she decided to go ahead sit up.

Then ensued her dive bombing attempts to latch back on - while remaining on her bottom. I couldn't help but let out a belly laugh each time to latch. She would succeed, suck a few times, and then sit back up with a big, silly grin on her face. It cracked me up and she knew it. Just remembering it makes me laugh out loud.

After doing this a few times, I could tell she was frustrated that it really wasn't working from a 'get nourishment in her belly' sort of way. I finally lifted her up and told her that she needed to lay back down on her side to make this work.

Once she was happily nursing again, a thought occurred to me. How many times have I been getting the nourishment I need and then decided to try things my own way? Thinking my way was better than the one God had set out for me? God, in his infinite patience with me, lifted me up and laid me back down where I needed to be because He knew better what I needed. Just like I knew better what Charlotte needed.

Are you trying to do something your own way? Is there something in your life that you need to let God take over?

7 Let the wicked one abandon his way,
and the sinful one his thoughts;
let him return to the LORD,
so He may have compassion on him,
and to our God, for He will freely forgive.

8 "For My thoughts are not your thoughts,
and your ways are not My ways."
[This is] the LORD's declaration.

9 "For as heaven is higher than earth,
so My ways are higher than your ways,
and My thoughts than your thoughts.

Isaiah 55.7-9 (HCSB)

  1. What a beautiful anology you make here! God has a wonderful way of sharing with us at just the right moments when we make ourselves available to him by being open to Him, aware of whats going on around us...there are lessons and words of wisdom everywhere!

BTW...I can just imagine Charlotte thinking she can have her milk AND do what she wants :)

    Love, Mom
