Naptime in the "Big Girl Bed"

When Bruce went to wake Charlotte up from her nap today, he couldn't resist taking this picture of our little girl learning how to grow up. Settling in for naptime was easier than our first bedtime, but it still isn't easy.

I discovered that I am fairly patient with Charlotte, until I lose my patience. Then, well, it isn't pretty. I have to work on that.

  1. They look so peaceful and innocent while they sleep!

I for one tend to walk away when my patience is at an end - I just ignore the situation and hope it improves. Not always the ideal way to handle things! More patience would certainly be helpful...

  2. Reminds me so much of my daughter when she was that age...she even looked similar :)

My 2 kids were total opposite when it came to sleeping in a "big bed"...the girl had much difficulty obeying and staying in bed...then there were the middle of the night calls for help with her blankets...many trips to the bathroom, calls for water, getting up for whatever reason.

My son decided when he wanted to be in a "big bed"...his sister had just moved from a toddler bed to a "big bed" and he was about 2 and declared he wanted a "big bed" too and not the toddler bed. From day one he has RARELY ever gotten out of bed, called for help, water or whatever. I wondered if he never even realized that he "could" get out of the bed if he wanted to.

To this day their personalities continue...unless he is sick or the rare time - the boy stays in bed once I say good night to him. The girl will get up for water or the bathroom or whatever reason (including sleepwalking).

  3. @Edi - We kind of made the decision mutually for her. Our new baby likely won't sleep in the crib until at least 6 months, but I wanted Charlotte to get the idea that she was growing up now and got special things too. The bed has been in her room for a little over a month and she kept asking for it, but I made her wait until her birthday because I thought that might help.

Just tonight, after I left her room, she got right up and pulled a book off of her dresser to read. Now, I love that she loves books, but not at bedtime after she has already had every book in the room read to her. KWIM? :)
