Giving Myself a Break

I am usually a high-energy, let's do lots of stuff every day kind of mom. I dance in the living room to made-up songs. I take Charlotte to the museum 1-2 times a week. We do fun art projects on a regular basis.

Or maybe I should say, I used to be like that. Until about a week ago when I just hit a brick wall. For some reason, I just keep forgetting that I am almost ready to deliver a new baby into the world. Why is that so hard for me to remember? Why do I have to hit 2 pm and then feel like I am crashing into a wall?

It has really been wearing on me that Charlotte has watched so much television in the last week. I feel bad. I always thought I'd be the mom who wouldn't let her toddler watch any (except for Signing Time), and then I became the mom who said okay, but no more than 2 hours a day. Then yesterday, Charlotte watched at least 6 hours of tv. Granted, she was not sitting in front of it like a zombie, but running around and dancing to the kids songs, but still... what happened to me?!

Oh wait, I remember. I am 39 weeks pregnant. So you know what? I am going to cut myself some slack for the next few weeks. If we only do one interesting thing a day and I never take a picture of it or blog about it then that will have to be good enough. And if the most interesting thing we do is share a cup of cheesecake Jell-O on the couch (because we should be working on 'J' for Alphabet School), then so be it.

  2. I was the same way with tv and my firstborn - but eventually I gave in...even now I sometimes worry that both kids watch too many videos, play too many online games etc. - BUT they are both voracious readers and quite crafty (the girl with whatever she can get her hands on and the boy with Legos etc.)...SO I feel like it all balances out.

  3. Sometimes it is hard to balance it all, especially at 39 weeks! Yes, cut yourself some slack!

  4. Seriously, if you have a toddler and your 39 weeks pregnant, and you still have to justify watching tv...you're definately an over-achiever!! Relax while you can, Charlotte will be just fine with a temporary TV overload.

  5. You are a great Mom! TV is okay every now and then. My girls have watched more here than ever because I need to study. At least television these days is educational....couldn't say that when I was a little girl.

You rest and take advantage of this time before you are getting up all night with a baby AND have a toddler!
