Helping Moms in Joplin, MO

Sometimes it takes a personal story for us to really see the need when other people are experiencing a tragedy.

Today, even though I had been aware of the horrible after math of the recent tornadoes in Joplin, MO, I finally saw the human side of it.

My friend Tracey shared about the moms of young children in Joplin who had lost their homes. It hadn't occurred to me, but these moms probably didn't crawl into their bathtub or basement with their baby's lovey or pacifier. And of course, the Wal-Mart suffered a lot of damage so they couldn't just go out and replace these items easily. They can't really do any of the daily stuff of raising preschoolers easily.

So Tracey, because she is awesome and responded when she saw the need, created an Amazon.com Wish List for the moms of Joplin, MO. On this wish list are things like pacifiers, diapers, blankets, and other items that moms will need in the coming weeks but won't have easy access too.

The MOPS group of Joplin is the intended recipient and will be distributing the received items as they come in. (Did I mention Tracey is a MOPS leader? She really loves moms!) When you buy the items on the Wish List, they will automatically ship to the MOPS group's home church (College Heights Christian Church). This makes the process so easy!

And if you decide to make a donation, you should sign up for Amazon Mom first. This will get you free shipping on several items in this Wish List (plus stuff you might buy for yourself down the road).

Here's what I ordered:

I placed my order tonight using money I've earned writing sponsored posts on this blog. Thanks for reading those posts and making this donation possible. If you decide to order something from the Joplin MOPS Amazon Wish List, leave a comment and let me know!

  3. So great that someone thought of this! I was going to make a care package but had no clue where the best place to send it would be. Thank you so much for making it possible for people to donate something other than just money. Placed my order and it should be there on June 1st!

  4. @Spencerwalle - I think the Tide program is great. One of the Joplin MOPS moms posted a couple of days ago that they had shown up to Joplin already!

@Mianna - I felt the same way once I realized the human side of the problem. Tracey is awesome and I'm so glad she set this wish list up!

  6. I happend across this page while searching on google. I am the Joplin MOPS coordinator and I was overwhelmed by the amazing response of the amazon wish list, we recieved so much that we were not only able to bless our moms but several others in the community, I was really able to see the true meaning of "no mom alone". We recieved items from all over the country and from Canada. I had just moved in Feburary and we had a living room and a front room and I had no clue what to do with the extra room, as it turns out God had a plan all along ! my front room became our "distribution center" I was filled with joy everytime I was able to bless moms/kids with these items!! Thank you so much for sharing and blessing our group!! Sarah Myers Joplin Mops Coordinator
